Cazorla, Segura y Las Villas has to be one of the most beautiful natural areas we’ve seen in Spain, and we have seen a few 🙂

It is located in the northeast corner of Jaén province, and honestly, it feels like this huge, wild wilderness that time forgot — mountain after mountain of rugged peaks and rocky cliffs, with rivers and streams running through everywhere you look.

We stayed in Hornos de Segura, a village located on top of a mountain above the Tranco de Beas reservoir, surrounded by large forests and areas with olive groves.

We spent some time exploring the village with its narrow streets and tried the local food, among other things the Segureño lamb which local breed that live in the highlands along the Segura river.

We went on several excursions around the area, including a trip to an organic winery, Vinos Bio Pedro Olivares close to La Puerta de Segura who supplies Michelin Restaurants in Spain with premium wines.

We also took a trip along the water reservoir and cooled ourselves in the natural pool on the Guadalquivir River.

To our surprise we encountered very few tourists; most of them from other parts of Spain. We will keep our little secret…
